This site has been designed with several key objectives....

• to provide a place for discussion and research of the Jacomb name and its variants;
• to provide a variety of public civil records covering these names;
• to provide a place for the sharing of information;
• to promote genealogical research into Jacomb ancestry;
• to establish a network of Jacombs and relatives online.

The site is a dedicated one-name study but is not registered through the Guild Of One Name Studies (GOONS) as it aims to provide visitors directly with information, rather than someone having to go through the process of making an enquiry to the study coordinator to obtain information.

It is important in the one-name study to include variants of the name Jacomb. Throughout the site full coverage is given to the following names: Jacomb, Jacombs, Jacombe, Jacom and Jacomb-Hood. The odds are favourable that all these names stem from a single source far back in time. Read more on the derivation of the surname here.

The site shouldn't be looked at as simply an information provider. The hope is that others who wish to share information will submit to the website thus widening the content and diversity of the website. One of the simplest ways to contribute is to sumit a birth, marriage or death certificate simply by emailing the information thereon. Anything you see as relevant can be submitted. This may be artwork, photos, research papers, biographies etc. There doesn't need to be a relevant section on the website already for the material to be added to the site.

The sheer quantity of useful records makes collecting and compiling them all an audacious and never ending project. Their global distribution increases the difficulty of their aquisition. As the site is England-based, the records are primarily orientated towards England and Wales. The name Jacomb however is prevalent in a number of other countries. The site's aim is in the future to have civil records from these other countries, however this is reliant upon researchers from these countries submitting the records to Jacomb.com (and Jacomb.com obtaining authorisation to publish them from the correct authority(s). Aside from the records on the site, the primary research tool promoted by Jacomb.com is the Message Board. The board (hosted for Jacomb.com by Boardhost) is a perfect tool for making contact with others who may be researching a related family line or geographic area.
