?????? Jacomb fl.1700s - Witness
to Horatio Nelson's Wedding
On March
11, 1787 the British Admiral Lord Horatio Nelson married Frances ('Fanny')
Nisbet on the island of Nevis in the Carribean. They were married at the
Montpelier Plantation in Fig Tree village and their marriage certificate
can be viewed at the St. Johns' Anglican Church where the parish register
is open displaying the page of the entry. The marriage ceremony was re-enacted
in 1987 in period costume with a Royal Navy honour guard present at Montpelier,
now an inn. Now apparently one of the witnesses to Nelson's wedding was
a Jacomb. He was apparently a fellow serving officer but exactly what
his first name was is unknown to Jacomb.com. It should be in the register,
but the register is in Nevis in a small grey church and that's a long
way to go to find out. Norwich museum had a copy but they have apparently
lost it.
